Stay tuned....

First, I want to welcome all my new followers! Thanks to my bestie, Mrs. Ruby, I have some new bloggy friends!

Second, I have been slacking in the updates over the past few days because of a few reasons... My wonderful Mom is in town helping to transform this house. This translates into working from 7-11 both days this weekend. Needless to say, when I got home I was ready to fall asleep. Third, my internet at home has been the best (ughh... last thing I want to do is call Charter and sit on hold for an hour). BUT... when I get the chance to hit up a free wi-fi spot I will post updates!

You sure run into surprises when working on a house 40+ years old! There are just some things that you can't change about a 1960's house.... but you will see how I have adapted.... stay tuned!

Paint advice: I need you...yes, YOU!

Yes... when I say I need you.. I mean YOU! :) If you know anything about my personal quarks you know that there are some decisions I can easily make and others that require... um... let's just say require a little extra time. You would be surprised at what decisions that take the least amount of time... like when I purchased a car on a whim (not a total impulse purchase, but let's just say I didn't plan on going car shopping that day) or the time I adopted my sweet pup, Snyder at the Humane Society...

The decisions I find a little harder are sometimes simple ones... what color towels to buy, what color dress to get. So.. as you can imagine as I embark on the adventure of repainting an entire house seems a little overwhelming. I have already stood in front of the wall 'o colors at Mr. Moore and Mr. Williams store :)

So... i'm asking for your opinion on what colors I should consider for the master bedroom. Notice the beautiful purple comforter my pup is laying on? Well that is my bed....what color would you paint the room- a neutral (same as the rest of the house?) or a light purple, a gray with a purple undertone? Feel free to chime in... don't be afraid to share specific paint colors/numbers. In the meantime, I will be grabbing more paint samples :)

Scored. Stripped. Buffed.

I managed to do all of these things the past 1 week, 4 days that I have been a homeowner. Stop with the giggles and dirty jokes...
I scored all the wallpaper, stripped the walls of the "paper artwork," and had my floors sanded, buffed and refinished! Oh.. did I mention I also locked myself out of the house?! That was NOT fun. I will blog later about that adventure. In the meantime look at the beginning of the transformation...more pics to come when I can actually walk through the house.
My Mom flies in on Wednesday to help paint, clean, etc. Next weekend the house will look completely different!! keep on checking back :)

Welcome to my house...

I won't put you asleep with ALL the details, just enough to hopefully keep you reading :) This blog project is about a recent purchase that I made in May 2010- the price tag was a little more than your typical pair of shoes, even a nice suit for work- it was a HOUSE! My first house to be exact.

Last August I sat down with a realtor and discussed the process of buying a house. I managed to finish my cup of coffee and not run away. I did manage to start the house hunting process- given the $8,000 tax credit how could I say no?!?! After looking at houses almost everyday online, driving around neighborhoods, falling in and out of love with paint colors, placing an offer on a short sale (only to wait 60+ days to get a no thanks) I found a hidden gem! My deadline of April 30, 2010 was quickly approaching and that is when it happened. I stumbled upon a 1960's brick ranch in Smyrna! When I say "hidden gem," I mean when you walk in you had to think about what was hiding under the wallpaper (which covered almost every wall in the house) and past the not so fresh smell of the home :(

In an nutshell- you would have thought you walked into your Grandma's house. (Please don't take this the wrong way- I love both of my grandma's. They are both very dear to my heart; however, that doesn't mean I can't make fun of the not-so-stylish trends of the day and dream to have no trace of them in 2010.

So here we go, I have bought a house that has some 60's character (some adds a unique touch, some will not be missed AT ALL). So welcome to my journey...Take a look....Grandmas are welcome too :)

Here it is! My home! Looking forward to painting the shutters and updating the front door. Color suggestions? Black, Navy Blue, Hunter Green?
